Mar ‘22: What’s New in What’s Old
We’ve been busy, busy, busy photographing, researching, and writing as fast as we can, hoping to get as much of our collection posted as possible before our website’s 2-year anniversary in April. So there’s lots of new stuff on the site but we’ll just call out some of the more notable ones. Starting with our favorite time period, here are our latest mid-century additions:
Hollywood View-a-Scope (our first coin-operated stereoscope!)
Vis-ster (oh, the rarity of this Italian viewer!)
Stereocolor (yet another hard-to-find Italian viewer!)
We know there’s lots of creatively designed vintage 3D goodness from before the mid-century period. These viewers have been in our collection for a while but we’re only now sharing them for the first time:
Stereoscope for the Million (one of the oldest items we have!)
Folding Leather Brewster (we think it’s a book viewer, what do you think?)
Photo Plait (check out the beautifully patterned wood)
Nettel (bellows on a stereoscope!)
M. Pillischer (from the award-winning microscope maker)
Lastly, we’ve finally posted most of our miniature 3D advertising viewers - did you know they can all be dated to right around 1900?
Eureka Tea (a mini box viewer!)
Martinez y Cia (mini cardboard from Barcelona!)
Rotoscope (mini & regular size)
Miniature tin 3D viewers by Neue Photographische Gesellschaft:
American Biscuit Company (the history may surprise you!)
Dobbelman’s Zeep / Dobbelmann’s Pierrette Soap (Dutch soap company)
Dr. Georg Schneider Erste Harzer Parfümerie Fabrik (German perfume factory - check out the brilliant color!)
F. V. Grünfeld Landeshuter Leinen und Gebildweberei (German linen factory)
That’s it for now. Our next big push for the website will be Tru-Vue which is by far our largest and most extensive collection. We may need a sophisticated operational plan for that.
