Sträuli & Cie Tin Stereo Viewer

Switzerland, early 1900s

This is the first stereoscope in our NPG collection with text in two languages. In French and German, it advertises the Swiss soap and candle factory of Sträuli & Cie. The company was founded 1831 in Winterthur, Switzerland by Johannes Sträuli. We were fortunate to hear from a family member who pointed us to extensive online documentation of the Sträuli family.
