Stollwerck Stereoscop | NPG
Germany/Colgne/London, 1900s
We rarely see red as a color on these lithographed tin stereoscopes so we’re excited to have two versions of the advertising viewer for Stollwerck Chocolate join our collection. Both use red throughout the entire design. This is another great viewer in the NPG family of tin advertising viewers.
Stollwerck Stereoscop — Style 2 (Germany)
This version no longer carries the Imperial name like Style 1 (farther below) but introduces the bird logo on the front. It also doesn’t have the NPG logo on the bottom but does have the patent number printed in 2 places on the viewer. The viewer’s text claims their chocolate and cocoa “are distinguished by their consistently excellent taste” and that “a cup of Stollwerck's Adler-Cacao contains concentrated all the muscle and blood-forming components of the cocoa bean.”
Stollwerck Stereoscope — Style 1 (Cologne & London)
This early version of the Stollwerck viewer carries the original Imperial brand, the NPG logo, and is “manufactured for Stollwerck”. It does not yet have the patent number on it and instead simply says “registered.” The text is in English, unlike the later version.
