Jumelle Lux Opera Glass Stereo Viewer
France, 1900s
This leather-covered opera-glass-style stereo viewer was designed by Lucien Bize. It’s similar in design to the Busch Diascop but was introduced much earlier around 1904 and manufactured by Gustave Jacob, Lucien Bize, and Robert Pleyau. It’s designed for 4.5 x 10.7 cm glass stereoviews and is focused using the knob in the center. The diffuser glass shown below is likely not original to the viewer since others we’ve seen have a notched diffuser that aligns with the curved notch on the viewer.
