J. I. Austen Company Stereoscope

Chicago, Illinois, United States, 1900s

J.I. Austen Company was an artwork framer and publisher of books, postcards, stereoviews and playing cards between 1895 and 1910. This small, metal viewer was designed to view postcards consisting of 3 color stereoviews on one side. The wire view holder slides back and forth to adjust focus. The actual device is slightly different than the diagram on the instruction sheet.
