Estereovisor VIVO
Brazil, 1970s
This simple, plastic stereo viewer is extremely difficult to find outside of Brazil. Ours is a light gray, but we’ve also seen it in light brown, green, tan, white, and a two-tone blue & maroon.
The brand sticker on the bluish-purple textured box lid indicates the viewer was made by J. L. de Sá of Porto Alegre with registration number 92688084. Records show that the company was founded on January 10, 1967, with the main purpose of manufacturing plastic items, and currently has an inactive registration status.
The slide mounts are plastic that use a snap-together frame to hold the 35mm transparencies. It seems that these viewers were popular for use with weddings — most of the slides we’ve seen come with the VIVO have been wedding slides.
