GAF View-Master Model L, Test Color
United States, 1970s
The Model L was the most popular View-Master model to use for advertising viewers and cartoon character “face” viewers. The orange ball on the 2-piece advance lever tended to fall off, so that design was only produced for a short time. The advance lever was changed to a one-piece design, and the Model L continued to be produced for many years through multiple company ownership changes.
Model L Test Color
Not only does this Model L View-Master have the early “ball” advance lever, but it also has a cream “test” color that was never released to the general public.
1985 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight Regency View-Master Set
It’s hard to believe that 1985 items qualify as “vintage” … seems like we were in the ‘80s not that long ago. There are people who believe a “98 Oldsmobile” is referring to a 1998-released car. We would have been in that camp if we weren’t intimately familiar with Public Enemy’s rap release “You’re Gonna Get Yours” back in 1987. The song frequently mentions his 98 Oldsmobile — so much so that it’s often thought to be the song's title.
“98” refers to the car being a Series 90 with an 8-cylinder engine. This car was an Oldsmobile flagship and was produced for over 50 years, ironically ceasing production in 1996 — just 2 years shy of an actual “1998 98”.
This set comes in a handsome box and has three reels — each inside its own descriptive brochure. We’re excited to make this a new addition to our Cars in 3D blog post.
