Texas & Pacific Railway Folding Stereoscope
United States, early 1900s
The Texas & Pacific (T & P) Railway Company began in 1871. The goal was to build a railroad between Marshall, Texas and San Diego, California but that West Coast goal was never achieved. This is one of the few NPG stereo viewers that advertise an American company, under its U.S. patent. General Passenger Agent E. P. Turner’s name is printed at the bottom. He took on that position in 1897, after being a Ticket Agent for T & P for almost 20 years. Our research indicates Turner was well-known and well-liked in the railroad industry and came up with the phrase “no trouble to answer questions,” which soon became a T & P slogan.
