Stereoscopic Atlas of the Chick

United States, 1930s & 1940s

This hard-to-find, 113-card set illustrates in 3D the development of a chick embryo through the 4th day of incubation. It was originally published in 1937 by California Laboratory Supply Co. in Los Angeles, and the content is authored by J. A. Long, Professor of Embryology, and Paul L. Burlingame, Research Associate in Zoology — both from UC Berkeley. It has a lorgnette-style 3D viewer attached to a cardboard base with printed instructions for use. The viewer folds completely flat for storage in the box. The last 4 cards in the set are slightly larger than the other 109. This is a 4th printing from the 1940s and the first few cards show written corrections to the text; the later cards show these updates in print.
