H. C. White “Plumber’s Nightmare”
United States, 1900s
This oddly-designed stereoscope was made by H.C. White and has their 1900 Paris World’s Fair medallion stamped into the top of the viewer hood. It’s featured in Paul Wing’s book, Stereoscopes: The First One Hundred Years. We don’t know if anyone ever discovered the patent but we’ve learned from another 3D enthusiast that the metal structure on top was intended to support a cloth hood. This one is completely functional and we love its style.
