Planox Apescope Stereoscope

France, 1920s

Manufactured by A. Plocq, this rare and unique stereoscope uses glass stereoviews that are each inserted into individual metal frames, and then the 12 metal frames are stacked into the removable cartridge. The user is then able to shuffle through the stereoviews by pushing the cartridge in and out. The mechanism occasionally sticks when trying to switch to the next view, but it still works. We’ve read somewhere that all 12 frames need to be in the cartridge for it to work, but we haven’t tested that.
