Loyd’s American Stereoscope
United States, 1856
This rare stereoscope invented by William Loyd is said to be the first American stereoscope sold commercially (excluding the viewing albums and daguerreotype cases designed by John Mascher.) Leather exterior, decorative reflecting lid, velvet slotted interior for storage of glass stereoviews, and hinged rear door covering the ground glass. This is the early version that has the full box lid hinged at the very front.
