Le Radieux-Stéréo

France, early 1900s

This is the 5th French stereo postcard viewer to enter our collection. It’s a beautiful blue-green color, has adjustable focus by sliding the cardholder in and out and has the tiny "ELD" logo printed in the bottom corner. It was made for the Parisian printing firm E. Le Deley (E. L. D.), a company founded by photographer Ernest Louis Désiré le Deley (1859–1917) and then, according to web sources, run by his sons after his death until its bankruptcy in 1930. E.L.D. was a major publisher of black-and-white postcards that used heliotype printing where a gelatin film is exposed under a negative, hardening it with chrome alum, and printing directly from it.
